Fifteen-Year Delayed Payment Dispute Resolved by Ombudsman Commission

The Ombudsman Commission received a complaint on 12 September 2019 from a building and maintenance contractor on alleged unpaid minor contract works in the Gulf Province for a period of fifteen (15) years from 2005-2020.

The complainant claimed that in 2005, his company was awarded a contract and entered into an agreement with the Gulf Provincial Administration to provide renovation on the administration building. The contract expired in 2007 and the complainant was following up with the Gulf Provincial Administration for the outstanding payment from 2005-2020.

The Ombudsman Commission commenced its full investigation into the Gulf Provincial Administration on 3 December 2020. Enquiries and feedback were made with the Gulf Provincial Administration.

The Commission was later informed by the complainant on 25 November 2021 that the Gulf Provincial Administration had raised a cheque of K157,397.65 on 5 August 2021 and paid the Contractor on 4 November 2021. The complainant was very happy and acknowledged the work of the Commission.
