The Ombudsman Commission conducted investigations into alleged non-payment of outstanding allowances for fourteen (14) former ward members in East New Britain Province for the period from 2015 to 2019 against the Department of Provincial & Local Government Affairs.
In its investigations, the Commission ensured appropriate information and banking details were obtained from the former ward members and referred to the relevant authority within the Department of Provincial & Local Government Affairs.
There were numerous follow-up attempts made with the Department of Provincial & Local Government Affairs and the Department of Finance. Finally, in April of 2022, the Commission was advised by the Department of Provincial & Local Government Affairs that the 14 ward members were paid a total of K263, 200.00 in outstanding allowances.
The Commission contacted the former ward members and confirmed that payments were made into their individual bank accounts. Most of the former ward members were pleased with the Commission’s assistance.
Do former ward councillors and presidents will still got their outstanding payments?
