MVIL Pays Delayed Claims after OC Intervention

Motor Vehicles Insurance Limited (MVIL) paid K27,970.00 as third-party insurance claims to families of a deceased person after the Ombudsman Commission’s intervention.

On 3 September 2019, an accident occurred and a person died as a result of the accident. Shortly after the accident, the families of the deceased submitted a third-party insurance claim to MVIL for processing.

The claim was lodged together with all the necessary supporting documents and in compliance with the requirements set by the MVIL.

However, the MVIL did not process the claim and it was delayed for three years and the claimants had been told to wait for the processing of the claim.

On 10 June 2023, the claimants came and registered a complaint with the Ombudsman Commission after waiting for three years and the Commission commenced investigation thereafter.

The investigation was commenced pursuant to Section 219 of the Constitution and Section 13 of the Organic Law on the Ombudsman Commission to ascertain the cause of the delay and to ensure that the complainants were properly assisted with their claim.

After conducting a preliminary investigation, the Ombudsman Commission was advised on 28 August 2023 by the MVIL through a Remittance that a claim totalling K27,970 was paid to the claimants as final payment.
