Ombudsman Commission concern over UPNG’s ongoing Saga

The Ombudsman Commission is gravely concerned about the ongoing saga at the University of Papua New Guinea.

The University of Papua New Guinea is a public institution, set up by law and is governed by law.

The education of the students is being affected over the issue and must not be compromised in anyway.

The Ombudsman Commission therefore, wishes to inform the public that it is conducting its own independent investigation into the matter and where persons subject to the Leadership Code, have not conducted themselves appropriately in the discharge of their public duties, will be investigated and subjected to the usual inquiry that the Ombudsman Commission does in relation to leaders.

Chief Ombudsman Michael Dick said, through the enforcement of its functions, the Commission will continue its efforts to lift the overall standard of leadership and governance in the country, as well as public administration of state owned institutions including Universities.

“Leaders must remain conscious at all times of their special and profound obligations to the people they are required to selflessly serve,” said the Chief Ombudsman.

He added, the Commission is required to guard, enforce and promote good governance, good leadership and good ethical standards in Papua New Guinea. All these will come when there is compliance with eth Constitution.

The Ombudsman Commission henceforth, encourages any person with relevant information and or documents to come forward and assist the Commission in discharging its functions in the UPNG mayhem.
