A Primary School Teacher at the Malangta Community School in Bulolo District, Morobe Province received his workers’ compensation claim of K6,850.00 on 25 May 2023 after pursuing it with the office of the Workers’ Compensation for more than 21 years.
The teacher sustained injuries to his right clavicle on 7 June 2002 while engaging in official duty on a school sports day.
In the same year, a formal claim was lodged at the Office of the Workers Compensation in Lae and several follows were made between 2002 and 2020.
On 5 January 2021, a complaint was registered with the Ombudsman Commission and it took on the matter and commenced investigation and started conversation with the Office of the Workers Compensation in determining the delay that was caused in processing the claim.
After an active investigation and exchange of correspondences between the Ombudsman Commission and the Office of the Workers Compensation, a final claim of K6,850.00 was finally paid to the teacher through his nominated bank account.
The final settlement of the long outstanding claim came about as a result of the Ombudsman Commission’s active investigation.
The teacher confirmed and acknowledged receiving the long overdue payments and thanked the Ombudsman Commission for assisting him with his claim and ensuring that he received the funds to which he was rightfully entitled.
In 2018 I was posted to Bioka Primary School in EHP. For the whole of 2018 I wasn’t paid. TSC has instructed provincial education division to pay but it’s still pending for 7years. I’m one of those many silent majorities. Please need help.
