A teacher complained that the Rabaul District Education Coordinator and the East New Britain Provincial Education Division unlawfully displaced him from his teaching position.
The teacher claimed that after taking two weeks off from his compassionate leave to attend his biological brother’s funeral activity he was suspended and put-off payroll since 2018.
In June of 2021the Ombudsman Commission referred the matter to the Provincial Administrator of East New Britain Province and the Provincial Advisor.
The Commission conducted several follow-ups and case conference dialogues with the relevant officers.
After the Commission’s intervention, the East New Britain Provincial Education Division took action and appointed the teacher to Tavui Primary School in Rabual for the 2022 academic year.
The suspension was lifted and the teacher was enlisted on the payroll in March of 2022 with K2, 310.33 in back payment.
