Ombudsman Commission’s Intervention Relieves Prisoner

On 24 August 2023, the Ombudsman Commission received a complaint from an inmate at a Correctional Institution Facility. The complainant alleged that he was denied his constitutional rights and said that the Correctional Services Officer failed to inform him about his release date.

The Complainant had been following up on his release date for sixteen (16) months and he was not informed of his release date.

The Complainant was convicted in 2022 and he had been following up with the reception at the Correctional Institute and did not receive any feedback on his release date.

The Commission upon receiving the complaint went and visited the complainant at the Correctional Facility and interviewed him. While interviewing the Complainant, the Correctional Service Officers in charge at the facility informed the Commission on the due date for the complainant.

The Complainant received the news with extreme happiness and a smile and thanked the Ombudsman Commission for assisting him with a matter which he had been following up for more than a year and for obtaining a result speedily which had not been forthcoming for many years.
