Commission’s Intervention Ensures Ward Member Receives Outstanding Allowance Of K9,600.00

A Ward Member from a rural local-level government area lodged a complaint with the Ombudsman Commission in 2022, alleging that he had not been fully paid his monthly allowance following the 2014 local-level government elections. He stated that all elected council members had been instructed to submit their personal bank account details for payment of their monthly allowances and claimed he was owed K22,000.00.

The Ombudsman Commission registered the complaint and commenced inquiries with the relevant provincial authorities responsible for administering council allowances. The Commission also requested the complainant to provide supporting documents to assist in progressing the matter.

During its preliminary assessment, the Commission established that the complainant had already received K14,400.00 in allowance payments and that the actual outstanding amount owed to him was K9,600.00.

The Commission pursued the matter further with the responsible provincial division, requesting that the outstanding amount be settled.

On 25 March 2023, the complainant informed the Ombudsman Commission that he had received the outstanding K9,600.00, resolving the matter.
