Ombudsman Commission Intervention on Suspicious Matter Report Leads To Verification Of Aid Post Construction

In January 2024, the Financial Analysis and Supervision Unit (FASU) of the Bank of Papua New Guinea (BPNG) alerted the Ombudsman Commission (OC) to a suspicious K180,000.00 payment from a District Services Improvement Program (DSIP) account to a private company.

The payment, dated December 13, 2023, was flagged due to a lack of supporting invoices and was reportedly for the construction of an Aid Post in a remote district.

The Ombudsman Commission launched a formal investigation in January 2025, requesting documentation from the District Development Authority and other involved parties. The investigation confirmed that the project was indeed for an Aid Post, originally budgeted at K200,000.00, with K180,000.00 utilized after tax deductions.

The project was completed efficiently, one week ahead of its four-week schedule, demonstrating effective leadership in delivering essential health services to the community.
