On 28 November 2023, the Post-Courier published an article titled “Students pay K1.00 for teacher salary”. The report concerned teachers at a primary school in the National Capital District, who were said to be teaching without being placed on the government payroll. The Ombudsman Commission intervened and commenced an investigation to establish the facts.
The investigation found that the teachers had not been registered by the Teaching Service Commission and were therefore not on the payroll. The Commission raised the matter with the Teaching Service Commission as the government body responsible for teacher registration and payroll admission.
As a result of the Ombudsman Commission’s intervention, the teachers were registered by the Teaching Service Commission and placed on the payroll.
