Health Worker Seeks Assistance from the Ombudsman Commission to Obtain Outstanding Mining and Housing Allowance

In 2023, the Ombudsman Commission received a complaint from a health worker during its Public Education Program engagement in a mining-impacted area.

According to the health worker, the mining and housing allowance component of her salary was removed by the provincial administration in November 2009 without issuing a proper notice.

The health worker claimed that she had made several follow-up attempts from 2013 to 2018 with the relevant authorities of the responsible government department however, she only received a part payment of K3 488.17 in 2021.   

In 2013, the District Administration and Hospital Authority issued a letter to the Human Resource Division of the responsible Government Department. The letter was a request for the Human Resource Division of the responsible Government Department to pay the outstanding allowances owed to the Health Worker however no proper feedback was received.  

In 2018, another follow-up attempt was made by the Hospital Authority with the responsible Provincial Administration however to no avail. In 2021, the Health Worker received a partial payment of K3,488.17.

The Commission commenced necessary inquiries and consulted with the Human Resource Division of the responsible Provincial Administration in May 2024.

On 4 August 2024, the Commission received confirmation that the Health Worker had received the full outstanding mining and housing allowance of K15,118.37.
