The Ombudsman Commission will meet with the Student Representative Senate (SRS) of the PNG University of Technology on Friday 11 April 2025 at 1:00 pm to receive their petition following a peaceful open forum held at the East Taraka campus on 26 March 2025.
The Commission notes from media publications in the (2) daily newspapers of the issues raised by the student body during their open forums, highlighting their concerns on pressing national issues centered around the current government, the recently passed Counter Terrorism Act 2024 and amendments to the Constitution (Section 145 Motions of No Confidence).
The Commission has and will perform its constitutional functions independently and can proudly say that it has not acted under instruction or direction from any outside person or authority and has not encounter any direct political interference in the performance of its functions.
It is committed to upholding standards of integrity and accountability within government institutions and welcomes the student body’s approach to align its petition with other student representative bodies of other universities around the country and looks forward to receiving the petition.
However, it is not always appropriate for the Commission to comment on matters that are before it in the discharge of its constitutional duty as fairly as required by the Constitutional Laws governing its operations.
