In 2021, a retired primary school teacher and former member of the Teaching Service in the East Sepik Province lodged a complaint with the Ombudsman Commission. The teacher alleged that she was not paid her Responsibility Allowance.
The teacher’s efforts at getting the relevant Provincial Division of Education to look into her unpaid Responsibility Allowance were unsuccessful.
The Commission commenced an investigation and established that the teacher’s Responsibility Allowance for 2012 and 2013 were not paid.
After intervention by the Commission, the teacher was finally paid K2,859.46 by the Department of Education as her outstanding Responsibility Allowance for 2012 and 2013 on 30 June 2023.
