Alleged Delay In Raising New Claim Payment to Tropicair for 2017 Leave Fares Worth K9,000.00

A Primary School Teacher serving in the Kokopo District, East New Britain Province lodged a complaint with the Ombudsman Commission alleging delay by the ENB Education and the ENB Provincial Finance Office to cancel and raise a new Cheque payment directly to Tropicair for the Bi-Annual Recreational-leave air fares for 2017. The Teacher is from another District.

In 2019, the Complainant was posted to teach at Kokopo District, when the Provincial Treasury Office raised a Cheque payment for the recreation leave fares to Pomio and return for the Teacher and the family.

However, by the time the Cheque was raised, the Commercial Contract Agreement between the parties had expired and not renewed.

The Cheque was returned to the ENB Education Office for the Provincial Finance Office to raise a new claim.

For the next two years, the complainant personally followed up on the request but to no avail, and eventually lodged her complaint to the Ombudsman Commission in December 2022.

On 8 December 2022, the Commission referred the matter to the Provincial Finance Manager.

As a result of the Ombudsman Commission’s intervention, the complainant received through the Bank Account, the outstanding recreational leave payments and provided copies of payments to the Commission to confirm that the matter has been resolved. The Complainant received full payment of K9,000.00.
